![]() Flinging eighty-zillion polygons around the screen isn't always necessary to create a beautiful game. Every stage is both fun and challenging, and bouncing around the different types keeps Osmos fresh. Folks, there is not a bum level type in the bunch. Impasse clutters the space with seemingly immovable motes, but if you nibble carefully you can get out of traffic. Epicycles complicates your orbital path so you must deal multiple arcs. You can affect that orbital path by expelling matter, but if you aren't careful, you can swing your trajectory right into a wall or the central mass. Solar, for example, puts your mote on an orbital path. Osmos offers several different stage "types" that present challenges to how you'd normally play. Osmos - Gameplay Video Now, just noshing itty-bitty motes in a relatively open space might be relaxing, but I can admit it would get old. Tapping the screen to steer your mote is almost perfect. But don't think for a second that Osmos is only precise in slo-mo. Flicking the screen slows time, allowing you to be a little more precise at escaping certain doom or gobbling up a smaller mote. This will be your savior later in Osmos when you are staring down other hungry motes. Fortunately, you have the ability to manipulate time. So really, as gorgeous as Osmos is - and more on that in a moment - don't spend too much time gawking at the pretty colors or unwinding with the haunting electronica. ![]() But if you don't get a move on, other motes may out-eat you, effectively limiting your survival options. ![]() If you blast around the screen too much too soon, you eject so much mass that you're easy prey for larger motes. This ejects some ooze as tiny bubbles - which can then later be picked up to regain mass. You move the mote by tapping on the opposite side of the direction you need to go. You control a mote, an orb of primordial soup that grows when it absorbs smaller motes. ![]()
